The match play rules are as follows:
1)
All players are encouraged to make every possible effort to arrange a mutually convenient date for their match. The first name in each pairing is responsible for contacting the competitor. If the match is not completed by the scheduled deadline then both players will be eliminated unless evidence can be provided to indicate that one player had not been able to meet the discussed and agreed dates between the two players. In this case the ruling of the committee will be that the defaulting player will be eliminated.
2)
All matches should be played over eighteen holes off the white tees for men and the red tees for women at a course of mutual agreement. However if both players can not agree on a golf course venue then the default is the Nad Al Sheba Course at Dubai Golf and Racing Club. However, if both players agree, the match may be played off different tees (such as blue or black), or a fewer number of holes, or at any other mutually agreeable golf club anywhere in the world!
3)
Normal "home-club" or "UGA" handicaps will be used (excluding any temporary "society" revisions which are published by the Society Secretary) on the day the match is played and the higher handicap player will receive strokes equal to three-quarters of the difference in handicaps at the relevant ascending stroke index holes taken from the men's scorecard for the course.
4)
The result must be notified on the web site page with the name of the winner and the score within five days of completing the match.
5)
If you have any further questions about the match play event, or the rules, please contact the committee. Good luck!
An example:

John Smith has a handicap of 14.
Joe Doe has a handicap of 26.

Difference of 12 shots: Therefore, 3/4 of 12 = 9 shots.

Therefore on stroke index holes 1 through to 9 inclusive, Joe gets an extra stroke.

Example of how Match play works from here :

On a PAR 5 hole Joe scores a 6. The stroke index is 7 for this hole. He has a 1 stroke advantage on this hole. He registers a 5 on his scorecard. If John scores a 6, then Joe wins the hole. If John had scored a 5 then the hole would be halved. If John had scored a 4 (birdie) then John would have won the hole

On a PAR 3 hole Joe scores a 4. The stroke index is 12 for this hole. He does not get a stroke on this hole. He registers a 4. If John scores a 3 John wins the hole. If John scores a 4 the hole is halved. If John scores a 5 then Joe wins the hole etc.
